ABOUT WESTERVILLE'S ZERO WASTE PLAN
The City assembled a strategic plan to help reduce the amount of materials sent to the landfill with support from the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO). SWACO awarded the City a $30,000 grant to remove the burden on the refuse/recycling enterprise fund, which is funded by monthly fees paid by residents for trash, recycling and yard waste collection.
By the end of 2021, Westerville residents diverted more than 170,000 lbs of food waste from the landfill through the City's drop-off composting program.
