Our division participates with several other federal, state, and local agencies to form the Franklin County DUI Task Force. The task force meets on a monthly basis to discuss matters pertinent to impaired driving, specifically public education opportunities or enforcement techniques. Sergeant Anthony Rudd is the Westerville Division of Police liaison for the task force. In 2011, our division apprehended and prosecuted 392 OVI related offenders. Of these arrests, Officer David Leighty accounted for 186 arrests and was given special recognition for his dedication. Officer Leighty’s outstanding efforts earned him a nomination for this year’s Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) award. Westerville also participated in several community-based prevention and safety campaigns, such as Tie One On for Safety, Click it or Ticket, and sobriety checkpoints.
