The Detective Bureau is the primary investigative unit of the Westerville Division of Police. This unit is responsible for investigating all felony crimes occurring in Westerville, and presenting cases in Franklin and Delaware counties for prosecution. In addition to investigating crimes, the Detective Bureau conducts background investigations, provides comprehensive victim services, collects evidence, and protects public safety by detecting and mitigating serious crimes and trends.
Detectives work assigned hours and also serve in "on-call" roles to ensure that the necessary resources are available to investigate crimes 24/7/365. The section is comprised of a Lieutenant, Sergeant, Administrative Assistant, and 10 Detectives.
Our detectives work closely with local, state, and federal agencies and some are assigned to specialized units with the Joint Terrorism Task Force, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, DEA, and FBI Cyber Task Forces. Our department also coordinates with the Ohio Attorney General's Office and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for additional support and evidence analysis.
