Youth Police Academy

Youth Police Academy is an annual program developed for local students who have an interest in law enforcement.This year's Academy runs Monday, July 8th to Friday, July 12th . Participation is limited to 25 participants, and interested students must be at least 14 years of age AND have completed 8th grade.

During this one-week course, students basic law enforcement principles, including:

  • Crime scene investigation
  • Evidence collection
  • Search and seizure procedures
  • OVI laws
  • Building searches
  • Traffic stops
  • Internet safety
  • Demonstrations by our K-9 officer and tactical unit
  • Team-building exercises
  • Marching in formation
  • Physical training

Graduates may then apply to join Westerville Post 29, the Explorer program conducted by the Westerville Division of Police. This pre-professional program offers extended training in law enforcement, with an emphasis on community service.
