Westerville Parks and Recreation strives to provide access to all.
From the Access to Recreation program, SilversSneakers and various cooperative community events, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved with the Department. Learn more about some of these programs below.
Access to Recreation
The Access to Recreation Program, for ages 13 years old and up, allows those with a mental or physical disability to enjoy the many aspects of the parks and recreation environment. From the joy of swimming with your friends at our Annual Splash Party to the freedom of walking through our parks or even the entertainment of catching a sports game in action, we cover it ALL! These fun activities, games, dances and events allow everyone to enjoy the benefits of Parks and Recreation. The Parks and Recreation Department partners with the Westerville Civitan Club to host some of the largest accessible events of the year including the Spring Dance and Easter Egg Hunt. For more information regarding Access to Recreation, please contact the Program Supervisor at (614) 901-6506.
Unlock the door to greater independence and a healthier life with SilverSneakers. SilverSneakers is a fun, energizing program that helps older adults take greater control of their health by encouraging physical activity and offering social events. Health plans around the country offer the award-winning program to people who are eligible for Medicare or to group retirees. Westerville Parks and Recreation has teamed up with the Silver Sneakers program offering classes and events specifically for SilverSneakers participants including conditioning classes, health education seminars and more.
Cooperative Community Programs and Activities
The Westerville Parks and Recreation Department hosts a variety of special events and activities in collaboration with many different organizations in Westerville and throughout Central Ohio. Over the years you may have attended one of our larger events including the "Crossing the Cultural Divide," a Martin Luther King Day diversity celebration or "A Day of Arts for All," an Accessible Expressions Ohio art exhibition and tour that kicks off at Westerville Community Center.
