If your in-home smoke detectors are more than 10 years old, they need to be replaced!
The Westerville Division of Fire is partnering with the American Red Cross to offer free smoke detectors and installation for Westerville and Blendon Township families. Simply put: you call, we'll install.
Here's how to get started and what to expect
The Westerville Fire Prevention Bureau is at your service
When you schedule your smoke detector appointment, be sure to ask for a free, in-home fire safety inspection. A WFD representative will assess your home for fire risks and make recommendations to help protect your home and family.
How old are your smoke detectors? How old are their batteries?
In addition to replacing smoke detectors every 10 years, the Westerville Division of Fire encourages residents to test their smoke detectors monthly (by simply pressing the "test" button on the devices) and replace backup batteries at least once a year.
Did you know?
According to the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), three out of five home fire deaths occur in homes where home smoke alarms were not present or not working correctly. Read the report from NFPA.
