Veteran's Day Proclamation

To proclaim Friday, November 11, 2016 as Veteran's Day in Westerville and urge all citizens to recognize the valor and sacrifice of our veterans through ceremonies, prayers, and participation in patriotic activities in our community.

 

 National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

To proclaim the month of October 2016 as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Westerville and urge all women and their families in Westerville to get the facts about mammography.

 

Make a Difference Day/Service Day

To proclaim Saturday, October 22, 2016 as Make a Difference Day and Service Day in Westerville, and urge fellow citizens to observe this day by connecting with friends, fellow employees and relatives and with religious, school and civic groups to engage in projects benefiting their community.

 Fire Prevention Week

To proclaim October 3-9, 2016 as Fire Prevention Week throughout this Community, and urge all the people of Westerville to test their smoke alarms at least every month by pushing the test button, and to support the many public safety activities and efforts of Westerville's fire and emergency services during Fire Prevention Week 2016.  

 

 Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

To proclaim September 2016 as "Childhood Cancer Awareness Month" in Westerville and encourage all citizens and businesses to honor childhood cancer patients, survivors, their families and caregivers, and remember those who have lost their lives to this devastating disease.

 

 The Year of Leadership

To proclaim September 2016 to June 2017 as "The Year of Leadership" in Westerville and encourage all citizens to seek opportunities to become better leaders and to support all leadership activities.

 

Public Power Week

To proclaim the week of October 3, 2016 thru October 9, 2016 be designated the 30th annual Public Power Week in order to honor the City of Westerville Electric Division for its contributions to the community and to make its consumer-owners, policy makers, and employees more aware of its contributions to their well-being and how it makes their lives powerful.

To proclaim September 2016 as "Hunger Action Month" in Westerville, and urge our citizens to become more aware of the problem of hunger that faces our community and to support programs that prevent hunger.

 Grandparents Day

To proclaim Sunday, September 11, 2016 as "Grandparents Day" and urge every citizen of Westerville to join in this observance by honoring the life-long contributions of our grandparents and recognizing the viral resources, love and history all our grandparents provide.

 Parks and Recreation Month

To proclaim the month of July 2016 as “Parks and Recreations Month” and encourage all citizens of Westerville to celebrate with citizens of other communities throughout the nation by recognizing that parks and recreation services are essential to the quality of life, not only in July, but all through the year.

 Flag Day

To proclaim June 14, 2016 as “Flag Day” in Westerville and urge all residents to observe Flag Day by flying the Stars and Stripes from their homes and other suitable places and to celebrate our heritage in public gatherings and activities and to publicly recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.

To proclaim May 27, 2016 through May 30, 2016 as “Honoring Our Heroes Weekend” in Westerville and recognize this weekend as an opportunity for us all to come together as a community to remember, to honor, and to heal.

 National Emergency Medical Services Week 

To proclaim the week of May 15 through May 21, 2016, as “National Emergency Medical Services Week” in Westerville with the theme, “EMS: Strong” and I encourage the community to observe this week with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities.

 Westerflora 2016 Garden Tour

To proclaim the WesterFlora 2016 Season is open.  To encourage all residents to support the spirit of WesterFlora and the WesterFlora Civic Beautification Committee’s efforts to beautify Westerville.  And through their efforts we can all look forward to the 25th Annual “Westerflora 2016 Garden Tour” on Sunday, July 17, 2016.

National Mental Health Month

To proclaim May 2016, as “National Mental Health Month” in Westerville and urge all residents to support Concord Counseling Services and the service they provide to all citizens in Westerville.

National Wetlands Month 

To proclaim May 2016 as “National Wetlands Month” and call upon all citizens of  Westerville to aid in the continuing efforts to preserve our valuable wetland resources.

Poppy Day

To proclaim May 21, 2016 as “Poppy Day” in Westerville and ask all citizens pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom by wearing the Memorial Poppy on this day.

 National Bike Month 

To proclaim May 2016 as “National Bike Month” in Westerville and urge all who support bicycling to participate in the events planned and urges all road users to share the road safely with bicyclists.

 

National Police Week

To proclaim May 15 through May 21, 2016 as “National Police Week” in Westerville and further call upon all citizens to observe May 15, 2016 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day in honor of those law enforcement officers who, through their courageous deeds, have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community or have become disabled in the performance of duty, and let us recognize and pay respect to the survivors of our fallen heroes.

To proclaim May 2016 as “National Physical Fitness and Sports Month” and encourage all to celebrate by participating in their choice of quality of life activities, options and experiences as well as maintaining these healthy and happy activities and attitudes throughout the year.

National Older Americans Month

To proclaim May 2016 as “National Older Americans Month” and urge every citizen of Westerville to join in this observance in honoring the life-long contributions of our older residents; and to assist our senior citizens to continue their involvement in the community, recognizing the vital resources our senior citizens provide.

To proclaim Thursday, May 5, 2016 as “A Day of Prayer In Recognition of National Day of Prayer and the WARM Community Prayer Breakfast” in Westerville and recognize the Westerville Area Resource Ministry for their dedication of providing a valuable service to the residents of Westerville.

Arbor Day

To proclaim Friday, April 29, 2016 as “Arbor Day” in commemoration of the 144th anniversary of Arbor Day and do hereby urge all citizens of the City of Westerville to support the Westerville Shade Tree Commission’s efforts to beautify our community and commend their efforts to promote the planting of trees in accordance with the City Tree Master Plan.

National Library Week

To proclaim April 10, 2016 through April 16, 2016 as “National Library Week” in Westerville and encourage all people to take advantage of the wonderful library resources available at our community’s indispensable center for ideas and information, the Westerville Public Library.

To proclaim April 10, 2016 through April 16, 2016 as “National Volunteer Week” in Westerville, and urge all citizens to be aware of the contributions made by our service organizations and volunteer workers, including, Police and Fire Department Volunteers, Westerville Senior Center Volunteers,  City of Westerville Board, Commission and Committee Members, Parks and Facility Improvement Volunteers, Westerville Path Watch Volunteers, Westerville Amateur Soccer Association Volunteers, Westerville Youth Baseball and Softball League Volunteers, Central Ohio Soccer Association Volunteers, Junior Football League of Westerville Volunteers, Westerville Lacrosse League Volunteers and all other VISION (Volunteers In Service In Our Neighborhoods) Volunteers.

To proclaim that the month of April 2016 be referred to as “Celebration of the Arts Month” in Westerville and declares Westerville as an arts-friendly community of educators, learners, and practitioners and sets aside the month of April annually for the recognition and celebration of the Arts.

To proclaim February 21, 2016 through February 27, 2016 as "National Engineers Week" in Westerville, in order to give our citizens the opportunity to recognize the contributions made by the engineering profession, and hereby urge all citizens to join me in tribute and recognition to our community residents who are members of this worthy profession.

To proclaim February 1, 2016 through February 7, 2016, as “Clergy Appreciation Week” and encourage the citizens of Westerville, Ohio to show their appreciation and support for the clergy whose efforts make this community a better place in which to live.
