The City of Westerville is proud to announce the appointment of Ed Krieger as the Deputy City Manager for Infrastructure and Public Utilities. Krieger will provide strategic direction for the City’s public utilities, infrastructure and capital planning.
In his role, Krieger will lead the utility and service departments and strategically align all major infrastructure projects. He will ensure that Westerville utilities will support the community's expectations for local control, reliability, affordability and customer service.
Krieger holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Dayton.
Kreiger has 40 years of experience in the Electric industry, starting his career at an investor-owned utility. Krieger joins the Westerville team following his recent tenure as Assistant Administrator for Columbus Water & Power (CWP), where he spearheaded operational improvements and long-term strategic initiatives for the Division of Power. He also spent 26 years serving the City of Piqua in their municipal power system.
As the Power System Director in Piqua, Krieger led transformative projects such as the design and construction of a dedicated Electric Operations Center and the implementation of a city-wide fiber-optic network. Under his leadership, Piqua was consistently recognized for superior operational and financial performance by both American Municipal Power (AMP) and the American Public Power Association (APPA).
Krieger is a recognized leader in the public utility industry. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the APPA, representing the interests of municipal utilities across Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin. Additionally, he continues to chair the American Municipal Power Mutual Aid and Line Worker Training Committees, ensuring that utility crews are prepared and safe when the community needs them most.
"Ed brings a unique blend of education, knowledge and experience to the City of Westerville," said City Manager Monica Dupee. "His leadership will be instrumental in maintaining the high standards of our municipal-owned utilities, which allow us to continue to provide reliable service, faster response times and local accountability that directly benefits every Westerville resident and business."
Krieger begins his position in Westerville on April 27.
