CALEA Law Enforcement Accreditation

Post Date:11/21/2025 3:18 PM

WPD CALEAThe Westerville Division of Police (WPD) has been awarded Law Enforcement Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), effective Nov. 15, 2025. This recognition serves as the "International Gold Standard for Public Safety Agencies" and marks the second time the division has achieved this prestigious status.

Formally accepted by WPD Chief Holly Murchland (pictured center), the four-year accreditation confirms WPD's commitment to professional excellence and adherence to internationally accepted public safety standards.

The CALEA accreditation process involves a rigorous self-assessment, a review of policies and practices and an on-site assessment by independent assessors. The process also included receiving public feedback to promote community trust and engagement, as well as interviews with agency personnel and others knowledgeable about the department's operations. The final decision was rendered by a governing body of 21 commissioners.

CALEA accreditation is a continuous process that forms the foundation for a successful, well-managed, transparent and community-focused public safety agency. By maintaining compliance with CALEA standards, WPD demonstrates its ongoing dedication to high-quality service delivery.
