Utility Scam Alert

The City is urging residents to remain alert against another scam. This time, the scammers call claiming to be from the Westerville Electric Division, offering an apology and a rebate.

According to one resident, the scam is delivered by way of a recorded call. The recorded message stated that his electric provider overcharged him 30 percent and instructed him to dial 1 to receive his rebate. Luckily, he hung up and contacted the City before any harm could be done. 

Please note: in the event that a customer is overcharged by a City of Westerville utility, the refund is automatically applied to the account without any action required from the customer. A member of the City’s Finance Department team may reach out directly if they feel it is necessary, but not before the refund would be made to the account.

If you receive a suspicious call regarding your utility bill, please hang up and call the City’s Utility Billing Division directly at (614) 901-6430 to verify the status of your account.
