Annual Hydrant Flushing Program
The City of Westerville, Department of Public Service will be starting their annual hydrant flushing program beginning Sunday, April 14. The program will run around the clock for ten days in order to flush the more than 2300 hydrants in the City’s system. All hydrants are flushed once a year to help clear the water lines of particulates that may build up over time. Crews also check the hydrants and valves for any operational issues which need to be addressed in order to keep the hydrants in good working order.
Residents may notice a brownish tint to their water after the hydrants in their neighborhood have been flushed. If so, run the water through a tap for a few minutes and it should clear up. Residents may also want to run their washer through a rinse cycle once before doing laundry.
The hydrant flushing schedule can be viewed using the links provided below. The address closest to the hydrant will appear first, followed by the hydrant number in italics. Please note hydrants need to be flushed in a specific order to keep the clean water flowing through the water lines. Therefore, streets may appear on different days or even several times on the same day. Residents should check for any hydrants in their neighborhood to determine when crews will be in their area.
The schedules can be searched while open by right clicking anywhere in the document and typing the street name in the "find" box. For more accurate results do not include directions or types. (ie. East, Ave)
Please contact the Westerville Department of Public Service with any questions, concerns, or help in determining when hydrants will be flushed. The Service Department is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., 614.901.6740.
