The Westerville Division of Police Investigations section is responsible for investigating serious felony cases and all cases that will require substantial time and resources to resolve. This group of Detectives investigates crimes and files appropriate charges with the Prosecutor's Office regarding crimes committed in the City of Westerville. Examples of crimes investigated by the Investigations section include computer / cyber crimes, fraud and forgery, juvenile crimes / diversion, crimes against persons, property crimes, and problem oriented policing. In addition, each case that is presented to the Grand Jury in either Franklin or Delaware County must be assigned to a Detective for the presentation and case preparation.
Beyond investigating crimes, the investigative section also does all background investigations on perspective employees for the police division, as well as the records and communications sections.
Detectives are assigned hours and combined with a rotated "on-call" position to ensure the necessary resources are available to investigate serious crimes 24/7. The Investigations section includes a lieutenant, a sergeant, ten detectives, an administrative assistant and a part-time administrative assistant.

The goal of the Investigations section is to identify suspects, apprehend criminals, collect evidence, provide comprehensive victim services, and to protect the public by detecting and mitigating serious crimes and crime trends.
