Many
citizens use the multi-use paths daily.
Jointly, we are asking citizens to take responsibility for the paths
they travel, just like they do in their own neighborhoods. The goal of a path watch is to have
citizens assist in making our paths as safe and enjoyable as possible. The crime prevention portion of this
program enlists the active participation of citizens in cooperation with the
police to reduce crime on or around the multi-use paths in the city. It
involves citizens getting to know each other and working together in a
program of mutual assistance; citizens being trained to recognize and report
suspicious activity and the implementation of crime prevention techniques.
With training and guidance from parks and police staff, a “Path Watch” can
become a united and committed team.
“Path
Watch” participants will assist with safety concerns within the neighborhoods
as well as the community. The watch
will ultimately help the city and police by providing us with extra eyes and
ears on the paths.
The
Westerville Parks & Recreation Department and Westerville Division of
Police need your help. In early 2010 we will be establishing the “Westerville
Path Watch” Program. If you are
interested in participating in this opportunity you are invited to attend an
informational and orientation session:
When: Wednesday March 24
Time: @ 6:30 PM
Where:
Westerville Community Center
