On June 10, 2008 at 2:00 PM, former police officer, Leonard "Skip" Day, will be recognized and honored as the first “Officer of the Year” at the Westerville Division of Police.  A recognition plaque will be presented and displayed in the police department lobby at that time.   Lt. Day was a Westerville police officer from 1955-1986.  He is very well-known in the community and has always been a highly regarded officer and citizen.  Earlier this year, Lt. Day helped the police division create a very valuable presentation on the "History of the Westerville Division of Police".  He dedicated many hours of his time and unique knowledge to this project.  During the project, many historical facts about Lt. Day were discovered, such as an incident where Officer Day was involved in a gun battle and was shot by a suspect, making him the only officer shot in the line of duty throughout Westerville police history.  A newspaper article was also found from “1956” citing Officer Day as Westerville’s first "Officer of the Year". This ceremony and plaque will highlight Lt. Day’s accomplishment.
