Westerville Electric Division...more than 100 Years of Service

In 1898, growing increasingly dissatisfied with the oil lamps used to light its street, Westerville City officials turned to a new energy source--electricity. More than 100 years later, the Westerville Electric Division is still the only municipally owned and operated suburban electrical provider in central Ohio, serving all Westerville's 36,000+ residents and 1,500 businesses.

Located at 139 E. Broadway Avenue, the Electric Division offices are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide immediate assistance to customers. This division installs and maintains all electric meters, lines and street lighting. Facilities include six substations, which aid in distributing power to all of Westerville.

Westerville's municipally-owned electric service rates are generally lower than similar services provided by privately-held companies in other central Ohio communities, allowing Westerville residents to keep more money where it really counts...in their pockets. For a comparison of Westerville's electric rates with that of the City of Columbus and AEP-Columbus Southern Power go to City Departments > Electric > Rates.

A publication, entitled Public Power News, is distributed quarterly to all residential and business customers to provide educational and informative subject matter about electrical power-related issues. Whether a do-it-yourself electrician at home or a commercial/industrial customer, the Westerville Electric Division can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to give you whatever technical assistance you need!

Westerville's Electric Division would be pleased to provide electricity presentations or demonstration to local service clubs and civic organizations to educate the public on alternate energy, energy conservation or any other energy industry issues.  Electric Division staff will assist Westerville electric consumers in becoming more informed about renewable energy, its importance in energy supply, and its viability.
